12 inch jointer

Filed under: wood shop — howarth frank @ 10:22 pm

I have started to get at the 12 inch jointer.  It needs a new cutter head.  I need to figure out what it’s exact dimensions are in order to find a new one.  I Also discovered a broken part. It holds the adjusting rod to the out feed table.

cherry bowl

the Bowl blanks I have been making over the past year are ready for final turning.  I have finally made a halfway decent turning. I still need practice with sanding and finishing.  This bowl is cherry wood.

tractor

I have been working on a wooden tractor for Calvin. It has a cherry body with walnut wheels.  I got to use the new vacuum chuck to make the wheels (see previous post).  Calvin likes it a lot.

vacuum chuck

The vacuum chuck works. It is harder to center the work than I had thought, but it can be done.  I have been working on the wheels for a toy tractor.

vacuum chuck

Filed under: house projects — howarth frank @ 7:06 am

I have been working for some time now on a vacuum chuck for the lathe.  This will allow me to hold work to the lathe without any screws.  It took some time to get a vacuum pump off of eBay, I kept being out bid at the last second, I got a nice Edwards e2m12.  Then I had to figure out the fittings that attach to lab equipment.  I found a kf25 to ½” pipe connector.  Then it was just household plumbing.  From left to right in the photo I have, the vacuum connection, a bleed valve, the intake filter, vacuum gage, and the vacuum pump.  This will all fit up into the ceiling above the lathe.

I spent this past weekend at the 21 annual American association of wood turners Symposium.  It was very interesting, I learned a lot. I have more pictures posted here.
